Hyperglycaemia
Hyperglycaemia is what happens when the blood glucose levels raise too high.
Symptoms
- increased thirst and urination
- headaches
- lack of energy / lethargy
- stomach pains
Causes
- missing an insulin dose, or taking too little insulin
- eating more carbohydrate than usual
- over-treating a hypo
- stress
- being unwell
- having an infection
Treatment
- drink plenty of sugar-free fluids
- take extra insulin, if necessary
- test your blood regularly to monitor your blood glucose
- test for ketones
